Feature Topic on Applied Engineering Frontiers of Battery Management System for New Energy Vehicles
Power battery performances and safety critically rely on advanced battery management systems (BMSs), which possess full awareness of battery internal conditions and guarantee safe operation. The BMSs are required to achieve energy and power prediction, high battery equalization efficiency, fast charging, Remaining Useful Life (RUL) characterization, and potentially mitigate the rate of deterioration. The current challenge for the BMSs is to provide fast and accurate estimations of the battery internal states.
This feature topic mainly focuses on applied engineering frontiers of battery management systems including modeling, analysis, design, implementation, and validation of strategies for the control and estimation of lithium-ion batteries. Research articles, review articles as well as short communications are welcomed. Potential topics include but are not limited to the following:
- Energy material preparation and scale-up, cell manufacturing, and pack design principles
- Digital twins and model-based material, cell and pack design
- Advanced characterization technologies and application, e.g., lithium plating
- Modeling of battery aging mechanism
- Multi-scale and multi-physical field modeling of batteries
- Simplification of battery modeling methods
- Integrated modeling of data-driven and behavioral mechanisms
- Thermal runaway and fault mechanism modeling of batteries
- Fusion of model, data, and artificial intelligence
